Debbie, Darren & Staff welcome you to The Ypres Tavern.

The Ypres or “The Wipers” as some people fondly call it was built in 1860 and is situated in West Street at the end of Sittingbourne High Street.  From 1860 until approximately 1964 the pub was called The Railway Tavern, however the name was changed to The Ypres in 1964 when Sittingbourne was twinned with Ypres in Belgium.  Since December 2013 The Ypres has been run by Darren & Debbie Rousell who are both local and have spent most of their lives in Sittingbourne.  The Ypres is a traditional pub and we try to provide something for everyone, we have live music every weekend, pool, darts, a charity quiz night once a month, BT Sports and Sky Racing and there is also a private function hall available for hire, whatever you reason for visiting us, you can be sure of a warm welcome and some friendly “banter” from Debbie, Darren & the staff.

Function Hall

Not everyone is aware that at The Ypres we have a lovely private function hall which is available for hire for weddings, parties, christenings, children’s parties, funerals, meetings and business lunches.  The hall holds approximately 90 people and has a private bar and toilets (including a disabled toilet) and is completely separate from the pub area, it also has a small stage area for a disco or band and disabled access.   We are able to provide a hot or cold buffet for your function, including children’s parties at very reasonable prices (we do not charge per head) or we can provide a sit down meal for up to 40 people if required.

Our function hall is used by many local groups on weekday evenings but if anyone would like to book it for a dance class, keep fit or even a small craft fayre or boot fair during the day please do not hesitate to contact us.   Please take a look at our function room page and gallery, if you would like to book our function hall or would like some more information or to check availability, please do not hesitate to call Debbie, Darren or Mike (Bar Manager)

Live Music/Events

Every weekend we have live music from various bands covering a wide variety of different tastes in music; some weekends we have live music on both Friday and Saturday nights, please check our “live music gig list” for which bands are playing and when. We also are hoping to start a regular “jam/open mike night” on a Sunday evening soon, if new bands are interested in playing then please let us know.

We also hold a monthly charity quiz night, (normally on the last Sunday of the month), it is a fun evening with a free buffet and all money raised goes to Rachel’s ICU Fund and provides equipment for Medway hospital intensive care unit  and to date our brilliant customers have raised in excess of £1,300 for this charity.  No need to book just turn up on the night, if you don’t have a team then it is no problem as our customers are always willing to have an extra person added to their team.
